CHEM 18.1 INTERLAB: A University-Wide Chemistry Quiz Contest

CHEM 18.1 INTERLAB is an annual quiz contest at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, designed for students currently enrolled in CHEM 18.1 (University Chemistry Laboratory). Held every first semester, this event centers around a unique theme and offers a dynamic platform for students to explore a wide range of opportunities related to the theme.

The event fosters enthusiasm and awareness in the field of Chemistry by engaging participants in various activities, including seminars, exhibitions, and the quiz contest itself. CHEM 18.1 INTERLAB is a vibrant celebration of chemistry, encouraging academic growth and a deeper understanding of the subject within the UPLB community.

General Rules of CHEM 18.1 Interlab

The General Rules of CHEM 18.1 INTERLAB outline the guidelines and regulations for participants in this university-wide quiz contest. These rules ensure a fair, competitive, and enjoyable experience for all students involved.

    Genral Eligibility Rules

    • All bona fide undergraduate students of the university taking University Chemistry Lab (CHEM 18.1) are qualified to participate in the competition.
    • Contestants shall form a team consisting of only three members and each one must come from the same lab section.

  • Elimination Round

    The Elimination Round consists of a 60-item written examination lasting 1.5 hours, where all team members must participate. The team's overall score is calculated as the average of each member's total score. The first 50 questions determine the team's score, while the final 10 questions are used to break ties.

  • Laboratory Part

    The Laboratory Part is a move-system round where all teams start with a score of zero. Participants rotate through three stations, each requiring the correct execution of laboratory techniques. Ten minutes are allocated for each station. Judges will score the teams based on criteria provided by the committee, which will be announced before the round begins.
