Chemistry Quiz Contest

Chemistry Quiz Contest is an annual activity of the UPLB Chemical Society held every second semester of the academic year. The quiz contest covers various fields in Chemistry such as Analytical, Organic, Biochemistry, Physical, and Inorganic Chemistry.

Eligibility Rules
1. All bona fide undergraduate students of the university are qualified to participate in the competition.
2. Contestants should form a team and conceive a team name that will represent them in the quiz proper.
3. Each team should consist of three (3) to five (5) members, with three (3) main players and the rest serving as alternates.
The Quiz Proper
1. Ten (10) minutes before the quiz proper, at least three members of the team must be present. Otherwise, the team will be disqualified.
2. The quiz proper will consist of three rounds: Easy, Average, and Final Five.

Easy & Average Rounds
1. The Easy and Average Rounds shall serve as the basis for choosing the top five teams that will qualify to the Final Five Round.
2. Ten (10) questions will be asked in each round and points will be given for every correct answer.
3. Each team will be given a set of answer sheets and scratch papers with UPLB Chemical Society logo before the start of each round.
4. All questions will be read twice. After the first reading, each team will be provided with a copy of the question. Right after the allotted time has elapsed, the team should have submitted their answers to their respective proctors. Otherwise, the team shall not acquire any points for that question.
5. Scores shall be on cumulative basis. The five (5) teams that will garner the highest scores after the average round shall immediately join the Final Five round. In case of ties, sudden death system will be administered. The team who got to answer the question correctly will be included in the final round. If the question is still unanswered, succeeding questions will be asked to break the tie.
Final Round
1. The scores garnered by the Final Five teams will not be carried over to this round. Each team will therefore go back to an initial score of zero (0).
2. The questions will be determined using fishbowl method. The Quiz Master shall pick a field of Chemistry (Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Biochemistry) and a number representing each question.
3. A total of twenty (20) questions will be asked. All questions will be read twice. After the first reading, each team will provided with a copy of the question. The answer sheets and scratch papers with UPLB Chemical Society logo will be given at the beginning of the round.
4. Right after the allotted time has elapsed, the team should have submitted their answers to their respective proctors. Otherwise, the team shall not acquire any points for that question.
5. 5. Scores shall be on cumulative basis. The top 3 teams with the highest scores will be declared as Champion, 2^nd placer and 3^rd placer, respectively. In case of ties, sudden death system will be administered to break the tie, in which succeeding questions will be asked one at a time until a team answers correctly.
