Established in 1976, Kapnayan is a triennial week-long nationwide event organized by the University of the Philippines Los Baños Chemical Society. Aligned with the core mission of the society, Kapnayan serves to stimulate enthusiasm and understanding of chemistry.
This 2025, Kapnayan, returns with the title “A Cure’s Formula” and the theme “Catalyzing Drug Discovery Towards Health Equity Through Medicinal Chemistry.” The theme focuses on raising awareness among high school students about the pressing issue of health inequity and the pivotal role of medicinal chemistry in shaping a healthier future for Filipinos.
About the Event
Health equity, a crucial global goal set by the World Health Organization, remains elusive in the Philippines. Through advancing the drug discovery process, medicinal chemists play a vital role in formulating treatments for emerging diseases in the country.
Recognizing this, the UPLB Chemical Society aims to launch Kapnayan 2025 to raise awareness among Filipino youth. This initiative offers high school students insights into how medicinal chemistry contributes to creating a healthier society and provides a glimpse into the meticulous process of developing life-saving cures by chemists.
Through igniting interest in this field, Kapnayan 2025 aims to empower the next generation of Filipino scientists and health professionals to contribute to the advancement of health equity in the Philippines. Specifically, the society aims to fulfill this objective by engaging students in the following events:
Kapnayan 2025 will highlight two types of events: contest and non-contest events.
The National Chemistry Quiz Contest is a major competition event under the KAPNAYAN 2025, the triennial weeklong chemistry fair organized by the UPLB Chemical Society. The quiz contest covers the General Chemistry curriculum taught in regular and science/science-oriented classes. Questions related to this year’s theme will also be asked.
The National Research Symposium is a major competition event under the KAPNAYAN 2025, the triennial weeklong chemistry fair organized by the UPLB Chemical Society. The contest focuses on exhibiting the inherent talent among the youth in terms of scientific research and academic writing. The event aims to cater to the application and importance of research in scientific studies.
The Extemporaneous Speech Contest is a minor competition event under the KAPNAYAN 2025, the triennial weeklong chemistry fair organized by the UPLB Chemical Society. This contest endeavors to foster critical thinking among students as well as argumentative skills in public speaking.
The National Science Writing Contest is a minor competition event under the KAPNAYAN 2025, the triennial weeklong chemistry fair organized by the UPLB Chemical Society. The contest showcases the talent of the youth in literary composition. It aims to let the participants access their creativity and imagination to apply their skills in writing a feature article.
The National Photography Contest is a minor competition event under Kapnayan, the triennial weeklong chemistry fair event of the UPLB Chemical Society. The contest showcases the technical skills of contestants in photography and their creativity in telling a story that adheres to the competition’s theme.
The National Poster Making Contest is a minor competition event under the KAPNAYAN 2025, the triennial weeklong chemistry fair organized by the UPLB Chemical Society. This contest fosters the creativity of the youth in the visual arts, as well as the ability to concretize ideas adhering to the theme into tangible posters.
Kapnayan also features non-contest events designed to educate, engage, and develop the youth's appreciation for Chemistry.
Participating students and teachers will be guided by the resident members of Chemsoc for a field trip around the UPLB Campus. This trip aims to explore the natural beauty of the campus while also deepening appreciation towards the environment and scientific exploration.

Here's the schedule for Kapnayan 2025.
Please follow the steps below to complete your registration for Kapnayan and secure your participation in this exciting event.
Step 1
The coach fills out the registration form via Google Forms. The registration form can be accessed here.
Step 2
The coach emails the proof of payment to [email protected]
Step 3
Within 72 hours, the Kapnayan 2025 Steering Committee will acknowledge and confirm the school’s slot. They will then send a template for the requirements and a designated Google Drive folder link for uploading additional documents and choosing accommodations.
Step 4
The coach then uploads necesary docments to the designated Google Drive folder. These include the Participant Data Sheet, School Logo, Waivers and Consent Forms, 1x1 Photos of Each Participant, ID Scans or School Registration Forms of Participants, and the Official List of Participants.
Step 5
The Kapnayan 2025 Steering Committee will review the submitted files and send the pre-event guidelines.
